剧情：
讲述了中国历史上最后一个皇妃，溥仪最后一任妻子李玉琴充满传奇色彩的上半生，李玉琴与皇帝情感的悲欢离合，一个中国普通女人挑战皇权追求幸福的故事。该剧以爱新觉罗·溥仪从1942年到1957年的人生经历为主要线索，侧重讲述了溥仪与其最后一位皇妃李玉琴的悲欢离合、情感纠葛。 本剧演绎了“灰姑娘”李玉琴与末代皇帝溥仪结婚、离婚、又与平民结婚的富有戏剧性的一生。剧本以平民视点，以一个女人奇特的命运，透视了伪满洲国、国民党统治，共产党政权不同制度变革下的人性轨迹。出身贫家的李玉琴，十五岁被选入宫，嫁给了溥仪，一夜间成了满洲国的皇妃，不久战争改变了她的命运，日本投降和伪满洲国垮台，溥仪丢下李玉琴仓慌逃跑，没有带她离开。 战争结束，溥仪作为苏军的俘虏羁押在俄罗斯，李玉琴四处流浪，落魄回家，她在困苦的十年间，一直等待溥仪。之后李玉琴找到了图书馆管理员的工作，并结束了与溥仪苦难的婚姻,投入了新的生活。一个偶然的机会，结识了电台录音师黄毓庚，他们很快相恋了。正在两人布置新房准备结婚时，报纸上发表了溥仪被特赦的消息。黄毓庚因为和李玉琴结婚，被送到农村下放劳动改造，他们同甘共苦，感受到了平等的爱情，质朴的生活，相互的包容。经历了种种坎坷的李玉琴感到这才是真正的生活。
